The Benefits and Applications of MIG Welding
MIG Welding is one of the services that we perform here at Decron as part of our wide array of metal fabrication and forming capabilities. We have both robotic welders for consistent and precise runs of products that need a quicker turnaround time, as well as manual welders operated by our experienced team for projects that require a more hands-on approach.
About MIG Welding
Metal inert gas welding, or MIG welding, is one of the most common types of welding in the fabrication industry. This welding technique involves running a high voltage through a consumable metal wire electrode in order to heat and fuse metals together under a shielding inert gas. MIG welding is both cost-effective and efficient, which is why it’s so widely used in metal fabrication. The result is a strong joint between the two parts, which can either be the same or different types of metal–typically steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
The Benefits of MIG Welding
MIG welding has several advantages over other techniques that have made it popular in certain fabrication shops, and are also the reason why we use it here at Decron. It’s main benefit is that this type of welding offers a much higher level of productivity, sacrificing no downtime to constantly changing rods or getting rid of debris on the welding during the process. MIG welding is much cleaner and quicker, and results in a strong joint that also looks good, or can be easily ground down for a smooth appearance.
This welding technique utilizes a shielding gas in order to protect the arc, which results in little loss of alloying elements. That means no slag to remove, and very little weld spatter, which in turn leads to minimal clean up between welds.
In addition, MIG welding is also highly versatile. At Decron, we use our welders on a variety of different types and grades of metals and alloys, as well as different thicknesses of sheets and bar stock. Plus, as the wire is continuously fed through the machine, the speed and quality of the process tends to be much higher than other types of welding, and offers our operators much better control over the welders.
Decron–serving unique needs in a variety of industries
At Decron, welding is a part of the various different services that we offer as a metal fabrication company. We use it to create many different types of products, such as metal ladders for bunks and RVs, as well as parts such as hitches and safety bars for sports utility vehicles. We have also made several components for agriculture equipment, such as gates, feeders and frames. There are many different applications that MIG welding can serve, and we are proud to be experts in the technique.
